Rochambeau Bridge Reconstruction – I-84

Demolition of the Westbound superstructure of the Rochambeau Bridge in Newtown/Southbury, CT has been completed by Atlantic Coast Dismantling using plans by Siefert Associates, LLC. The bridge deck and stringers were removed with excavators positioned on the structure. The girders and floorbeams were removed using a barge crane and cranes positioned on the temporary trestle. To eliminate the need for expensive shoring towers during demolition, cut lines were optimized to balance the girders and use chain bracing to stabilize the girders over the piers.
