LIRR Bridge in Queens, NY
Siefert Associates, LLC designed a support of excavation [SOE] system for a project beneath an existing, and active LIRR bridge at 69th Street in Queens, NY. The SOE consists of steel plates braced by mechanical soil anchors along the proposed trench length. Stability analysis for various combinations of anchor depths and spacings were performed to determine the optimal arrangement. When compared to grouted soil anchors, mechanical soil anchors are installed much quicker and their capacity may be verified soon after the installation.
