George Washington Bridge Finger Joint Inspection
Siefert Associates’ focus on construction engineering means we are skilled structural and geotechnical designers with field savvy. This combination of skills is what makes us an ideal candidate for inspection, assessment and repair design for existing structures. We provide a detailed report with critical findings and photos to our client and as part of our comprehensive service, we often design the needed repair procedures to bring a structure back into a state of good repair. Currently, Siefert Associates performs monthly inspections and as needed repair procedures for the existing finger joints and surrounding steel structure at both the NJ and NY Towers of the George Washington Bridge for El Sol Contracting / GCCOM Construction Co., J.V. The inspections and repair procedures assist the Port Authority in their maintenance efforts to keep the existing finger joints suitable for traffic on the world’s busiest bridge. This same project scope includes the ultimate replacement of the existing finger joints and Siefert Associates provides sequencing and temporary structure design for that operation as well. Our design, brought to life by our skilled contractor partner, results in efficient overnight finger joint replacement with all lanes re-opened for the morning rush hour.
