57th Street Tower Crane Foundation

The 57th Street Tower Crane Foundation had to fit into a very tight area as building faces, streets, and underground utilities were limiting creativity with respect to foundation placement.  Siefert Associates, LLC was selected by Navillus Contracting Inc. to fit the foundation and its underground pile support into the landscape at hand.  Siefert Associate’s team of engineers broke the foundation into two separate reinforced concrete parts to provide more predictable load transfers from the tower crane.  The concrete foundation was analyzed as deep beams had to span long enough so the pile supports would not meet the existing conduit duct underground.  Siefert’s engineers then designed a permanent bracing system to help respond to horizontal forces during tower crane operation.  The foundation was tied into the surrounding structural support systems and a stabilizing plate was fitted onto the foundation to brace all four crane legs. The crane foundation adequately supported the tower crane without issue.
